The MyDoom Virus

The following message was created by the MyDoom virus. Its claims are false.

The MyDoom virus sends out such messages in an effort to get others to infect themselves. (Tricking users in to infecting their own computers is called "human engineering".) The contents of the attachment mentioned in this message is the MyDoom virus itself.

Why Do I Get These Messages?
As computers on the internet get infected the virus scans the victim computer for email addresses and then sends copies of itself to those addresses.

What Can I Do About Them?
The best solution is to delete these messages as they arrive. We also strongly encourage you to follow our Windows Security guidelines.

The UOregon.edu e-mail servers automatically disable these virus attachments before delivering the message. However, please do not open attachments unless you are certain of the sender's identity or intentions.
