This FAQ has the purpose to clarify and answer some of the most
common questions that I and other support persons receive
here at the University of Oregon Office of University
Computing. If you have any questions that you consider
should be part of this FAQ please feel free to e-mail me
the question and, if you want, the answer you consider
most appropriate. All questions/answers are reviewed
carefully so that they don't mislead the naive user. Some
of the answers to the questions are just references to
handouts distributed by the Office of University
Computing.

ARA
- I just installed ARA (2.0) but I haven't been able to connect to the network. I'm calling 346-1586 and the modems communicate for a while, but never fully connect; eventually they disconnect. (2.3.1)
- After following the previous (2.3.1) procedure you still aren't able to establish a connection (well, it connects but you don't get the security extension asking you for your UONet NetId/Password). (2.3.2)
- I have a LocalTalk printer. When I use ARA, I can't print. (2.3.3)
- I followed all the procedures to connect to UONet using ARA2.0 but I was using AppleTalk in my Network and MacTCP control panels. Then when I went to run a TCP/IP application I got an error complaining about MacTCP. (2.3.4)
- I connect to the UONet remotely using ARA version 2. After connecting my machine either randomly freezes or my connection drops. What is wrong? (2.3.5)
InterSLIP
- Using InterSLIP it seems that sometimes I can connect to UO-Net well, but sometimes it won't work although the dial-in line was connected successfully. The message reported to my terminal looks like the following: "No username prompt", then "idle". (2.4.1)
Trumpet WinSock
PC Shiva Remote

- How can I send FAXes over UONet? (3.4)
