Configuring Eudora
Eudora 5.2 or higher is required.
If you choose Eudora, please use an up-to-date version. Download it here.
due to our SSL
requirement.
Eudora's configuration is done through several labeled categories (i.e. Getting
Started, Checking Mail, Incoming Mail, etc.) Clicking on a category reveals
the settings for that category. The instructions below do not explain every
possible option. See the Eudora
User's Manual for detailed information on these optional settings.
- From the Tools menu select Options...
- From the Category list on the left click Getting Started
- In the Real name box enter your name
- In the Email address box enter your email address
- In the Mail Server (Incoming) box, enter either pop.uoregon.edu or imap.uoregon.edu
(What's the difference?)
- In the User Name box, enter your username (the part to the left of the
@ sign in your uoregon.edu email address)
- In the SMTP Server (Outgoing) box, enter smtp.uoregon.edu
- From the Category list on the left click Checking Mail
- In the Secure Sockets when Receiving section, select Required, Alternate
Port
- From the Category list on the left, scroll down and click on Advanced Network
- Change the Network Buffer Size to 8192
- From the Category list on the left, click on Sending Mail
- Click the "Allow authorization" check box just below the SMTP server setting
- On the left side of the Options box, find SSL
- In the SSL for SMTP menu, choose "Optional (TLS)"
If you selected pop.uoregon.edu in step 5 click the OK button. You are
done! Otherwise, continue.
- From the Category list on the left click Incoming Mail
- In the IMAP Mailbox Location Prefix box, enter ~/mail/
- Click the OK button. You are done!
NOTICE
On May 10th, 2004, several security holes were discovered
in Eudora for Windows (versions 5.2.1, 6.0.3 and 6.1).
We strongly recommend following these
instructions to close the security holes.
