Configuring Mozilla for MacOS

Based on Mozilla 1.4 for MacOS X

  1. Start Mozilla
  2. From the "Window" menu select "Mail & Newsgroups"
  3. Click the "Create a new account" link
  4. Select "Email account" and click the ">" button
  5. Enter your name and your email address; click the ">" button
  6. Click either the "POP" or "IMAP" button (What's the difference?)
  7. In the "Incoming mail server" box enter either "pop.uoregon.edu" or "imap.uoregon.edu", depending on what you chose in the previous step; click the ">" button
  8. Enter your username ("jersmith" in the example "jersmith@uoregon.edu"); click the ">" button
  9. Give the account a meaningful name, like "UO" and click the ">" button
  10. Click the "Finish" button

But wait! There's more...

  1. Click the "View settings for this account" link
  2. Click on "Server Settings" in the list on the left
  3. Click the "Use secure connection (SSL)" check box and click OK

Not done yet! There's one more set of steps:

  1. From the "Edit" menu, select "Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings"
  2. Click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" in the list on the left
  3. In the server name box, enter "smtp.uoregon.edu"
  4. Uncheck the "Use name and password" check box
  5. Click OK
