Configuring Netscape 7
Based on Netscape 7 for Windows
- Start Netscape
- From the "Window" menu select "Mail & Newsgroups"
- Click the "Create
a new account" link
- Select "Email account" and click the "Next >" button
- Enter your name and your email address; click the "Next >"
button
- In the "Incoming mail server" box enter either "pop.uoregon.edu"
or "imap.uoregon.edu" (What's
the difference?)
- Enter your username ("jersmith" in the example "jersmith@uoregon.edu");
click the "Next >" button
- Give the account a meaningful name, like "UOregon" and click the "Next >" button
- Click the "Finish" button
Now enable SSL:
- Click the "View settings for this account" link
- Click on "Server Settings" in the list on the left
- Click the "Use secure connection (SSL)" check box and click OK
Finally, set the correct outgoing (SMTP) mail server:
- From the "Edit" menu, select "Mail & Newsgroups Account
Settings"
- Click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" in the list on the left
- In the server name box, enter "smtp.uoregon.edu"
- Uncheck the "Use name and password" check box (unless required
by your ISP)
- Click OK
