Configuring Outlook 2002 and 2003
- Start Outlook
- From the "Tools" menu, select "E-mail Accounts"
- Click the "Add a new e-mail account" button and click "Next
>"
- Select either "POP" or "IMAP" and click "Next >"

- In the "User Information" section, enter your name and e-mail
address
- In the "Server Information" section, enter your Incoming mail
server as "pop.uoregon.edu" or "imap.uoregon.edu" depending on what you chose
in step #4
- Enter "smtp.uoregon.edu" as the Outgoing
mail server
- In the "Logon Information" section, enter your username (the portion
of your email address to the left of the @ sign)
- Click the "More Settings..." button
- Click the "Advanced" tab
- Under "Incoming server", click the "This server requires
a secure connection (SSL)" check box
- Under "Server Timeouts" move the slider to the right so that the
timeout is between 2 and 3 minutes
- Click the "OK" button
- Click the "Next >" button
- Click the "Finish" button
How to enable SMTP Authentication
- Start Outlook
- From the "Tools" menu, select "E-mail Accounts"
- Make sure the button for "View or change existing e-mail accounts" is selected
and click Next.
- Select your account and click "Change..."
- Click the "More Settings..." button
- Click the check box for "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
- Click the "Log on using" button
- In the User Name box, enter the first part of your UOregon email address
- Click the Advanced tab
- Under the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" section, click the check box for "This
server requires a secure connection (SSL)".
- In the box to the right of "Outgoing server (SMTP)" change the number there
to 587.
- Click OK
- Click Next
- Click Finish
Outlook will now log you in when you attempt to send mail.
