Configuring VersaMail

You must have an appropriate data service for your cell phone to connect to the internet. Contact your cell phone provider for more information.

These directions were written for VersaMail 3, which is currently available only on the Treo 650.

  1. From the Accounts menu select Account Setup
  2. Click the New... button
  3. In the Account name field enter an account name, like "UOregon"
  4. From the Mail Service menu select Other
  5. From the Protocol list select IMAP
  6. Click the Next button
  7. In the Username field enter your username (the part of your email address to the left of the @ sign)
  8. In the Password field enter your password
  9. Click the Next button
  10. In the Email Address field enter your UO email address
  11. In the Incoming Mail Server field enter imap.uoregon.edu
  12. In the Outgoing Mail Server field enter smtp.uoregon.edu
  13. Click the Next button
  14. Click the Advanced button
  15. In the Port Number box enter 993
  16. Click the "Use Secure connection (SSL)" check box
  17. Click the Next button
  18. In the Port Number box enter 587
  19. Click the "Use Secure Connection (SSL)" check box
  20. Click the box "Use Authentication (ESMTP).*
  21. Click the Done button

* ESMTP: When you check this box, username and password fields automatically appear. Checking the box alone should be sufficient. VersaMail should automatically put in the same username and password for you. If this does not happen for any reason, fill in the same username and password you normally use to receive email.
