Get Connected with MacOS X On Campus

Attach an Ethernet Cable
Plug one end of the cable into the Ethernet port. Plug the other end of the cable into a jack on the wall labelled "UO Ethernet." The head of an Ethernet cable looks like a standard phone cord but is slightly wider.

Turn on Your Computer
MacOS X is preset to automatically configure itself correctly for UONet, the University's network.

Troubleshooting
If your network connection does not work, check your network settings against the information below.

  1. From the Apple menu select System Preferences.
  2. At the top of the window, click "Network".
  3. Set the "Configure" option to "Built-in Ethernet".
    Note: In MacOS X 10.3, click the "Configure" button, the select "Built-in Ethernet" from the Show menu.
  4. On the "TCP/IP" tab, set the "Configure" option to "Using DHCP".
  5. Make sure the "Domain Name Servers" and "Search domain" boxes are empty
  6. Click the "Save" button
    Note: In MacOS X 10.3, click the "Apply Now" button
