BEFORE INSTALLATION

1. Make sure you have the recommended minimum Macintosh model and configuration to run Banner GUI. You may need to upgrade your computer to meet the minimum requirements. For example, you may need to add memory or hard disk space to accommodate this software.

2. Obtain the software. This software can be purchased at the UO Bookstore. Insignia SoftWindows 95 v5 consists of two CD-ROM’s. These CD's are labeled "Install CD" and the other "WIN95DATA." You must have your own individual copy.

4. You will need to request a Banner NT Server password. Information relating to how to request the account will be posted here soon.

5. Install the Windows emulation product normally, then follow the Windows installation instructions. This guide is for SoftWindows, but the setup for Virtual PC should be similar at least conceptually.

Final Notes: It is critical the SoftWindows user have at least a 15" monitor in 800x600 or higher resolution to see the environment properly. The original Apple RGB 13 will not be sufficient. If you have problems with odd looking colors, try making the number of colors the same in the Monitors control panel on the Macintosh, as the Display control panel on the PC. For example, if the Macintosh is set to thousands of colors, set the PC-side's colors to thousands also. The PC-side's color settings can be found in the Display control panel within Windows which is under "Start," then "Settings...." More information relating to customization and optimization can be found in the SoftWindows users manual.

How to startup SoftWindows steps complete.

More information on how to setup the Windows side can be found in the
Banner User's Guide.
