Software Download
We maintain several servers for the distribution of Windows and
MacOS software at the University of Oregon. Historically, our servers were only
used for public domain software (now better know as freeware). However, they
currently contain UO site-licensed and shareware, in addition to freeware. Due
to licensing restrictions, our servers are only available to those connected
to the UO network, or connected via VPN.
Off Campus? (Both Macintosh and Windows)
VPN software can be used to make your computer appear to be transparently connected to UOnet. The fastest way to get access (without loading software on your PC) is through our WebVPN. Once connected via the WebVPN, the URL you need is either "public.uoregon.edu/windows" or "ccpd.uoregon.edu/macintosh."
Macintosh
- MacOS X: From the Go menu, select "Connect to server" and
enter "ccpd.uoregon.edu" (or simply click here)
- MacOS 8.5 or higher: afp://ccpd.uoregon.edu, then select the Macintosh volume.
This only works on MacOS 8.5 or higher.
- MacOS 8 or higher: Open the Chooser from the Apple menu. Select "AppleShare"
and click on the "Server IP Address..." button. Type "ccpd.uoregon.edu"
into the prompt that appears.
- All Macintoshes: http://ccpd.uoregon.edu. Select the "Macintosh" folder.
- For Off-campus access methods, see the "Off Campus" section of this document above.
Notes:
- When prompted for a username and password, select the "Guest" radio-button.
- When prompted for a volume, choose "Macintosh"
- The full version of the VPN software can also be used to access this content from off-campus.
The full version of VPN includes the ability to remotely mount the volume via the "Connect to Server" method mentioned above.
- You can determine your system version by selecting "About this Computer..." from the Apple menu.
Windows
- Select "Start" then "Run..." and type "\\public" into the prompt that appears.
- For Off-campus access methods, see the "Off Campus" section of this document above.
Notes:
- Some Windows software installers require you to copy the entire folder to your hard disk before you can run the installer.
- The full version of the VPN software can also be used to access this content from off-campus.
The full version of VPN includes the ability to remotely mount the volume via the "\\public" method mentioned above.
