How to Enable Secure Email Passwords in
Microsoft's Outlook 98, Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express

NOTE: Do not enable SSL for Outgoing (SMTP) mail. You will not be able to send mail with this feature enabled.

Windows Outlook 98 and Outlook Express 5.0 (and later)

  1. From the Tools menu select Accounts
  2. Click the Mail tab
  3. Click on your email account and click the Properties button on the right
  4. Click the Advanced tab
  5. Under 'Incoming mail" click the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" check box
  6. Click OK

Microsoft Outlook 2000 for Windows

  1. From the Tools menu select Services
  2. Click on "Internet E-mail"
  3. Click the Properties button
  4. Click the Advanced tab
  5. Under "Incoming mail" click the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" check box
  6. Click OK

MacOS version 5 and later

  1. From the Tools menu select Accounts
  2. Click the Mail tab
  3. Click on your email account and click the Edit button
  4. Click on "Click here for advanced receiving options"
  5. Click the check box that reads "This POP/IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL)"
  6. Click OK
