Securing Eudora for Windows

Monday, May 10, 2004: Security flaws discovered in Eudora
Affects: versions 5.2.1, 6.0.3 and 6.1

Eudora, in conjunction with Internet Explorer, are susceptible to two email-based exploits that can allow the attacker to run any program they wish on your computer. Until Qualcomm, Eudora's publisher, addresses these issues, here is how to close this particular hole:

  1. Open Eudora
  2. From the Tools menu, select Options
  3. From the category list on the left, click Display
  4. Uncheck "Automatically download HTML graphics"
  5. From the category list on the left, click Viewing Mail
  6. Uncheck "Use Microsoft's viewer"
  7. Uncheck "Allow executables in HTML content"
  8. Click the OK button to finish
