Using SSH Secure Shell

You can log in directly to your account by using SSH to open a "shell" to our server. Once the connection is established, you can issue commands to perform a wide variety of functions.

This page explains how to open a secure (SSH) shell connection.

1. Start the "SSH Secure Shell" program by double-clicking on it.
2. Click the "Quick Connect" button.

3. Enter "shell.uoregon.edu" the Host Name box and your username in the User Name box.

Click the connect button.
4. Enter your password and press enter. You will now be logged in!

Common Unix commands
Change password: passwd
List files: ls
Show disk quota: quota -v
Logout: lo
